In April 2025, Data Saves Lives Germany (DSL DE) published the latest edition of its bilingual magazine, DSL DE Kompass – a timely and practical resource focused on making health data and digital transformation accessible, understandable, and empowering for all.
As Germany continues its push toward a more digital healthcare system, the Kompass offers much-needed guidance for policymakers, healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and communication experts.
The Kompass offers:
Actionable recommendations for effective digital health communication – developed through co-creation workshops, research, and lived experience.
Expert contributions from across sectors – including Judith Gerlach (Bavarian State Minister for Health), Prof. Ilona Kickbusch (international public health expert), Odette Helbig (patient advocate), Prof. Oliver Opitz (Bosch Digital Innovation Hub), and Tobias Silberzahn (FH Europe Foundation), among many others.
A strong equity lens – highlighting that digital health literacy must be a shared goal, not a luxury, and that early involvement of patients and citizens is essential.
The magazine blends perspectives from patient advocacy, research, politics, care, innovation, and media – all centered around one common goal: building trust and promoting digital participation in healthcare.
““Digital health literacy is a key resource for the future. To strengthen it, we need a new culture of communication – one that is open, empathetic, and participatory. Health leaders must step up, explain facts clearly, and help shape a culture of trust.””
About DSL DE
Data Saves Lives Germany is part of the broader European "Data Saves Lives" initiative, launched by the European Patients’ Forum (EPF) in 2019. Since 2022, DSL DE has tailored this movement to the German context, with a strong focus on local patient needs and transparent, independent communication. Supported by the Bosch Health Campus since 2024, DSL DE operates as a non-profit, neutral platform that connects stakeholders and helps build digital health literacy across society.
